Canada Post released stamps in various formats, on September 10, 2013, to commemorate the 75th anniversary ofthe comic book character Superman.

The most interesting stamp format is the coil of 75 self-adhesive stamps, featuring the stylized “S” logo on superman’s costume. The image for the stamp is taken from the 1986 cover of the Special Collector’s Edition of Man of Steel #1, drawn by John Byrne. This image is also featured on the cover of one of the five booklet stamps also issued by Canada Post. The stamps have the Permanent “P” logo, with the face value on the day of issue being 63c

The backing of the coil features an inscription using the Kryptonian alphabet, translating to “The S sheild is more than Supermans family crest its Kryptonian symbol that means hope” in English and “Le cusson S est bien plus que blason de la famille de Superman ce symbole signifie espoir en Kryptonien” in French.

The English portion covers 14 stamps while the French portion covers 17 stamps. There is a blank stamp in between, which will no doubt be the most desirable one for collectors. The stamps themselves have the recently introduced “Canada” underprinting on the reverse, which can be easily seen through the backing.

The left side of the stamp has a copyright inscription in micro-printing: (c)DC, (s13) (c)2013
